A funeral service will be held this afternoon at 3 p.m. at the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with the Revs. Ernest and Juanita Hollowell officiating. The family received friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening.
Mr. Gurley was the son of the late H. Howard and Peggy M. Gurley, and was married to Frances C. Gurley. He attended Cricket Ridge Free Will Baptist Church, and was retired from DuPont as a yarn spinning operator. Mr. Gurley was a veteran, having served 17 years in the North Carolina National Guard.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Gurley is survived by a daughter, Loretta Gurley Sladden and husband, William, of Goldsboro; three grandchildren, Jonathan Gurley and Kathy and Tiffany King; great-grandchildren, Khristopher Little and Tristan King; three brothers, Lester and Mildred Gurley of Warsaw, Owen and Joy Gurley of Hope Mills, and Henry "Hank" and Annette Gurley of Warsaw; and two sisters, Nannie Holloman and Adell Anderson and husband, Leonard, all of Warsaw.

Mr. Gurley was born April 29, 1934, in Pitt County, N.C., to the late Henry Howard Gurley and Peggy Frances Moore Gurley.

Hold Services For Mrs. Gurley
Funeral services for Mrs. Ed Gurley, 69, who died Saturday at her home,
Pikeville, Route 2, were conducted Monday afternoon at Pleasant Hill Free Will
Baptist church of which she was a member. The pastor, Rev. Mr. Joyner, assisted
by the Rev. Tom Bizzell of Whitley officiated. Interment was in the Edwards
cemetery near Rosewood.
Mrs. Gurley was the former Mary Frances Willoughby. She is survived by her
husband; two daughters, Mrs. Susan Nichols of Goldsboro, route 2 and Mrs.
Bettie Pittman of Pikeville, route 2: three sons, Luby Gurley of Goldsboro,
Lewis of Smithfield, and Pvt. David C. Gurley, serving overseas; seven
brothers, Jim and Andrew Willoughby of Kenly; John of Clayton, William and
Richard of Pikeville, Otho and Oscar of Goldsboro; one sister, Mrs. Jane
Langston of Princeton; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
