Thomas Marion Gurley was born on 20 January 1841 at Blount County, Alabama.¹ He married Mary McCurdy on 10 October 1858 at Greene County, Missouri.^2,3 Thomas Marion Gurley was he lost all his property in the Civil War according to the "History of Greene County, MO" published in 1883. "At the end of the ar, he found himself in possession of one yearling calf. So he had to begin at the bottome of the hill and now seems to have made rapid strides toward a compentency, for he owns 120 acres of fine land four and one half miles from Springield on the Bolivar road." in 1883 at 4 and a half miles from Springfield, Missouri.⁴ He died on 23 January 1911 at Greene County, Missouri, at age 70.¹ He was buried after 23 January 1911 at Mount Comfort Cemetery, Springfield, Greene County, Missourii.⁵
