Gurley stated to the Court of probate that "about the month of July, 1845, she intermarried with Tillman Gurley, late of said county wio departed this life some few weeks since, leaving one child less than a your old...2,3 Nancy Caroline Hicks moved to at Comanche, Texas, in in 1855.3 She died on 12 July 1916 at Comanche, Texas, at age 92.1

    Her parents moved further towards the frontier when she was yet but a girl to Mississippi where she grew to womanhood,
    she was married to Tillman Gurley. Of this union there
    was born one boy, Joe, who lived here for some years.
    After the death of Tillman Gurley she was subsequently
    married while yet in Mississippi to Dr. G. W. Montgomery,
    a minister of the Christian faith, and together they came
    to Texas in 1855, stopping first at Waco and then coming
    here where Mrs. Montgomery's people had preceeded them.
