James Gurley was born circa 1776.3 He witnessed the land transfer of William Gurley on 6 August 1787 at Anson County, North Carolina; bought an additional parcel of land from Middleton Pool who had now moved on to Montgomery Co., NC; he paid £50.4 James Gurley wasgranted land containing two parcels of 150 and 135 acres on 13 December 1803 at Montgomery County, North Carolina.5 He was mentioned in the will of William Gurley in October 1804 at Anson County, North Carolina; his will was proven in the October, 1804 Court and recorded in Anson County, North Carolina Will Book 2 on page 47.6 James Gurley died after 1824.7
