     Patsy Gurley was born in 1789 at Southampton County, Virginia.1,2,3 She was riding in a cart with her children and were being followed by Nat Turner's band of insurgants. circa 22 August 1831 at Southampton County, Virginia, Her brother, James Gurley was acting as a lookout and saw the cart. He reported the sighting to Major Pitt Thomas who placed himself betwen the cart and the blacks, allowing Patsy Gurley Barrett and her children to escape to the home of her mother, Mrs. Lucy Gurley.4

She died in February 1862 at Southampton County, Virginia.1

     Nathaniel West Gurley was born circa 1810 at Pendleton District, South Carolina.1,2 He began military service between 1836 and 1837 at Alabama when he served in the fourth Alabama Mounted Volunteers fighting the Creek Nation in Musgrove's company.3 He was a witness of a land exchange between John Hartgroves and Carlton T. F. Tannehill circa 13 May 1837 at Jefferson County, Alabama.4 He was issued a U.S. land patent when he purchased 40 acres on 5 August 1837 at Blount County, Alabama.5 He was issued a U.S. land patent when he purchased 40 acres on 10 September 1838 at Blount County, Alabama.6 He married Julia F. Porter on 2 January 1839 at Blount County, Alabama.7,1 Nathaniel West Gurley and Benjamin Gurley were involved in a land transfer when Nathaniel transfered land to Benjamin on 10 October 1840 at Jefferson County, Alabama.8 Nathaniel West Gurley and Aaron Gurley were involved in a land transfer when Nathaniel transfered land to Aaron on 10 October 1840 at Jefferson County, Alabama.8 Nathaniel West Gurley and West Gurley were involved in a land transfer when he transfered land to his son, Nathaniel W. Gurley for "love and affestion." West Gurley reserved for himself and his wife, Mary, the occupency, rents, title and claim during their natural life. on 25 June 1850 at Jefferson County, Alabama.9 Nathaniel West Gurley was indebted to William S. Mudd for some reason in January 1852 at Jefferson County, Alabama.10 He and Julia F.
